If you plan on baking this holiday season, keep your eyes open for some really great sales! Today I found a great sale on my favorite Ghirardelli Brownie Mixes at Aldi. Only $1.99 each for a 20oz box! In my experience, I find it very easy and convenient to purchase pre-mixed confections for cookies, cakes and brownies because they are so very easy to jazz up with your own personal touches. Be sure to read the box or visit the manufacturers website for more creative ways to turn that boxed mix into your own masterpiece that you will be so proud to give as a gift this year!
Here are a few of my secret ingredients that I add to the tradtional boxed baking mix either as a topping or in addition to the batter:
- Baking chips: white, milk chocolate, or butterscotch
- Crushed toffee pieces
- Coconut or other dried fruits such as apricots, cranberries or crushed banana chips
- Sliced almonds, chopped pecans, or walnuts
- Mini-candies like M&M's, colorful sprinkles or edible glitter
